Conveying modern design trends in the Chicagoland area

One of the things that real estate investors rely on professional home stagers for is understanding current market trends and conveying that to potential home buyers.

Tile trends in Chicago design

The tile in the kitchen and bathroom of this Chicago home at 3934 North St Louis home showcase contemporary design trends.

While the thin matchstick like tiles have been growing in popularity over the past few years, the grey one and placement on the vertical rather than the horizontal create a modern edge. Pairing this with the brushed nickel mirrors and hardware feels sleek and yet timeless. Dark woods are still popular, with a focus on rich browns rather than golden or red hues.

While vertical was great placement in the bathroom, for the elongment of counter space, horizontal was the best option in this kitchen. A soft grey tile with lighter grout shows off the varying pattern of tile widths.

Varying cabinet colors creates impact

One of the great trends in today’s design is the trend of mixing and matching colors, including wood tones. You’ll notice in the kitchen photo above that the majority of cabinets are white while the island is a darker color, like what is seen in the bathroom. The floors, however are a more golden tone.

To keep a balance in the space without the varying patterns creating a palette that becomes too busy, it is important to carrying it all the way across the room. You’ll notice in this staging design, the lighter golden woods are combined with darker island and table base, then softened with white chairs. Color pops are added for interest in tones of aqua and green apple.
