3 Home Staging Tips for a Contemporary Home

When it comes time to stage a contemporary home, this style evolves based on the trends that are here and now. This unique home staging style can borrow from several periods, which makes it appear upscale, timeless and classy.

Today’s contemporary design relies on neutral colors, simplicity, and sleekness. Materials like metal and glass are popular because of their light-reflecting properties, and the furnishings can provide textured or patterned fabrics, clean lines, and exposed legs. Take this Burr Ridge Club home’s gourmet kitchen pictured below for example, the serene quartzite countertops, metallic patterned backsplash tiles, the simplistic pendant lighting, the built-in breakfast bar, all that storage, it’s a space that would welcome any buyer in.

Add Warmth to a Room with Wood

This notion of contemporary style being cold is not a new objection. So, it’s important to bring in natural materials to help articulate that warm feeling. Luckily, the home sellers already had walnut colored wood flooring to work with in the kitchen pictured above. But, notice how we used wooden legs with the countertop stools, and added an espresso colored wood dining table. We also placed a few wooden accessories near the countertop’s corner to help tone down those cold, sterile building materials you often find in contemporary homes.

Patterns and Texture Direct the Eye

Stage A Contemporary Home

Across from the kitchen of this 4,000 square foot estate, there is the grand entry and formal living room. Our team at Chicagoland Home Staging took a cue from the kitchen backsplash using a bold pattern on the club chairs. They also played with pattern and texture in the artwork, rug and pillows.

Use Greenery to Mimic Mother Nature

Stage A Contemporary Home

Simply add green plants to surfaces and create soft focal points around the room. Contemporary homes used to mean hard edges and lots of glass and steel.  Now it means functional spaces without extra fuss and embellishment, and open plan, with lots of light and good flow.
